anyone riding on the 17"AEV Pintler wide-stance's?
I'm putting on Bushwacker "pocket style" fender flares this week and was looking at the 17" AEV Pintler wheels, and saw that AEV offers a "wide stance" version of the wheel for broader aftermarket fender flares. I was curious to see if anyone has the wide stance on their JK, or if they have the regular and feel like the wide stance would look better. Anyone got photos of either set up?
The wider the stance, the more stable off camber, etc.
Most states state the tires have to be covered by the fenders, so AEV warns that they're rims are to be used with flare extensions to keep them covered.
So - off hand, I'd say with the flare extensions...get the wider stance rims.

They should cover them. The wide stance wheels were what AEV used in the SEMA 2006 show, and if you look at the photo's on Project-JK you can seel that they are not sticking out far at all.
I was doing some research on my future lift (the Teraflex 4"), and it turns out some lifts require LESS of a backspacing for optimum performance (the Teraflex lift in question requests 4.5" or less). I know the wide stance Pintler's have a backspacing of 3.6" if I'm not mistaken. These wider stance wheels not only benefit the fender flare extensions in questions, but also may be required for certain suspension systems. Just FYI. Okay, I'm out.

I think so. I think the longer your WMS-WMS length is for a given axle, (wheel mating surface to wheel mating surface), the more stress you place on the hubs and their internals. I don't think the wheels in question would make TOO much of an impact, though. I hope this helps.

It does make a difference, as you are increasing the leverage on the hub face.
Slightly.

So, theoretically, it will cause more stress.
Of course, it will also change Ackerman angles, and other steering handling and ride related geometry, etc.
That said, I don't think most people notice enough difference to care...at least on Jeeps and most trucks.
There ARE some rigs that are more vulnerable to these changes...but, at least for the JK, it seems to be within reasonable boundaries.
Think of it like larger tires....we all do it, but it DOES increase the stress on driveline components, like shafts, etc, due to the increase in leverage the larger diameter imposes on the drivetrain...so, yeah, it increases stress...but, we get away with it.
