Default Lift with no Tires

I just got my Black Diamond 3" and I have the Factory 18" wheels. Do I NEED to get new tires? I ask because I don't have the money now for tires and was wondering if the lift installed with no upgraded tires will work?

Talking you'll be fine

:cool you're Jeep will look a little weird but it won't hurt a thing, save your money and get some real nice tires, don't waste your time with the cheap ones just to get that look, you'll end up having to buy more cheap ones because they will wear so fast you won't have time to save up your $$ again -- just my advice, have fun out there

Not doing tires right off won't hurt anything. You don't gain any ground clearance at the axels but you do help your approach, departure and breakover angles. I did the same, 2” lift and I am keeping the stock tires until they wear out.

Thanks for the pic. I can't justify buying new tires when the ones I have are still in great shape.

I Agree. Do you have more pics of the Jeep with the lift?

I don't like big tires on my Jeeps. I've owned a few and I have never run more than 32s. I must admit I like the look of bigger tires mostly. And I also like the performance on quite a number of specific off road challenges. But I hate the effective gearing changes. The inertia effect on acceleration is not good, even if you re-gear. Gas mileage suffers, often more than many think (or claim). New wheels are often needed (or spacers, yuck). And those big meats are more expensive to purchase, and they don't last any longer than smaller ones.

I'm not knocking the big tire crowd, to each their own. But I will continue to run smaller tires.

You are more than welcome to lift it without the tires... i have a friend that is going to do the same thing... I however would not lift a vehicle without the plan to also upgrade the tires. Bigger tires give you increased ground clearance and also much better traction than the stock tires. Not to mention 3 inches of lift is going to look really stupid without the bigger tires. Trust me I lifted mine 4 inches and had to drive on stock for 2 days... bugged the crap out of me and just made it look cheap... my honest opinion is to lift it once you have the tires.... plus for safety reasons raising your center of gravity three inches without widening your stance will make the jeep more top heavy... expecially on the trail. Good luck!
