New JKUR Coming Soon... Need some guidance with initial mods please!
Hello all,
I've got a new 2012 JKUR on order and it should be arriving at my dealer in the next couple of weeks.
I'd like to make some initial modifications after it arrives, and I was hoping to get some guidance here so I can get some parts ordered. Here are a few things I'm considering:
1. Tires
I'd leaning toward a set of Goodyear Duratracs in size 315/70-17.
I like these because I live in Colorado and I see quite a bit of snow in the Winter months and these seem like they will perform in the wet/snow better while still giving me respectable off-road performance.
I don't do a lot of hard core wheeling, mostly just exploring the local fire roads in the nearby mountains. I need a good off-road tire, but I don't think I need a full on MT for what I do.
2. Wheels
It looks like a lot of folks are running the above tires on stock wheels, even though from the specs it seems like they want at least an 8.5" wide wheel. How much of a concern should this be?
From my research, it looks like I could run this size tire on the stock Rubi MOAB wheels if I used a 1.5" spacer.
I like the ARE Pintler wheels a lot. Do these have the correct amount of backspacing to run this size tire without spacers?
3. Lift Kit / Suspension
I was originally leaning towards a lift kit in the 3-3.5" range from Rock Krawler or Teraflex.
From what I gather, going over a 2.5" lift will require me to swap out driveshafts, so now I'm thinking about starting out with a 2.5" spring lift and possibly upgrading to a higher lift at a later time if I decide I need to.
Would this be enough lift to run these tires for some light duty wheeling?
4. Gearing
I ordered my Jeep with 4.10 gears with the 5-speed automatic.
Is this ratio good with the 34.4 diameter of these Duratracs?
Thanks,
Alan

Alan, congrats on the jeep. With 4.10's and the new motor you should be just fine. I'm running duratrac 275 65 r18 on my Sahara now (about a 32" tire) getting the 2 1/2" OME coil lift done tomorrow. I'm hoping they don't look too small and will upgrade to a bigger tire prob 33 when these wear out. I think you will be just fine with Your lift and tire combo considering your intended use. Honestly, I've never been let down with it in stock form, I just want more clearance now that I've installed an arb bumper, stock suspension a little too soft for me. While I can't speak about the width of your tire and rims, you will love the duratrac tire. Ive owned two sets in 2 different vehicles and absolutely happy with them.
Good luck
Good luck
I really like my Goodyear Duratracs 315/70-17 on my AEV Pintlers. A great combo, don't rub and don't stick out as far as other wheels.
A 2012 with 4.10 gears and 5 speed auto should do very well with above tire size. Suggest AEV ProCal to adjust speedo so gears will shift close to stock.
2"-2.5" lift is also a good height. Not too much to require alot of other mods.
Sounds like you thought this out.
