larger rim width, larger tire width, rubbing?
Alright you JK geniuses, here's the scoop:
Current setup:
2.5" budget boost
33" (285/70/17) Mickey Thompson MTZ's (11.5" wide)
17" stock moab rims (6.25" backspacing, I believe?, and 7.5" wide)
1.5" Spidertrax wheel spacers
I want to sell my stock rims and more offroad friendly ones that won't scratch as easily. Most of the options are 8.5"-9" wide (as opposed to the stock 7.5" wide). Am I guessing correctly that a wider rim would be more likely to pop off of the tire when aired down and offroading?
I'm tempted to also sell my tires and bump up to the 12.5" wide MTZ's to compensate for the wider rim. This then leaves me with the next question - will it rub worse than my current setup? Will the backspacing on the new rim affect this at all?
When flexxed to its maximum right now, there is a very slight rub with the current setup.
Help please!

Just to clarify, I'm not worried about rubbing while turning (which you need the backspace for), I'm worried about rubbing on the inner fender when fully articulated.
When I articulate right now there is a slight rub at max flex, so I'm just making sure that a wider tire wouldn't worsen that problem.

The only thing I wonder is if there is still an issue if your fenders remain uncut. I wasn't sure if the edge of the tire would rub on the outer lip of the fender, or if it's just rubbing the inner liner at full flex.
I want to be EXTRA sure before I go switching out of my current setup and into something bigger only to find out that I'm screwed!
