Default Dual Maplights on soundbar

Has anyone done a mod to the domelight and changed it to dual maplights?

I wish the light on the soundbar could be turned on/off like the one behind the rear seat.

I want to retrofit a dual maplight on the soundbar but I want it to look OEM.

Is there constant power to run map lights without the domelights on?
I know there is power on the rear domelight because you can turn it on/off.

Any done this yet?

I was planning to accomplish a similar goal by installing a rear-view mirror with maplights.

Thats not a bad idea but I am use to map lights on the roof. You can see more around the console area.

I wish the front dome light would toggle on/ff like the rear.

i just got the gentex 50-genk30 self dimming rear view mirror with l.e.d map lights
it also has temp and compass redundant but you have to get that in order to get map lights
this mirror was factory on tj's (at least on rubi's and saharas in 2004)
comes with complete wire harness and is easy to install

google gentex and you will see they make all the oem mirrors ...plain, uconnect , onstar, homelink etc etc

Someone on here simply got a rear light and put it in the spot for the front light. Said he got it from a junkyard. Apparently it worked like a charm. I'm sure it wouldn't be expensive to get from the dealer either.

I wanted a map light as well, but liked the idea of the homelink for the garage remote. I went with the Gentex 50genk-42, it's the autodimming mirror, with homelink, and mood lighting plus map light. I wasn't going to use the mood lighting, but it does a great job of lighting towards the front cupholders, which is nice at night. Then the light turns brighter white for use as map light. It works really well. It's nice to have the garage opener handy, and i wired it to accessory power so It can't be used with the top off.

Here's a low cost alternative to the spiffy rear view mirror:

Early 80's GM car mirrors! They don't have the compass/temp, etc. But, they offered two map lights. The neat thing is you can get 'em CHEAP at the junk yard. I have one I considered installing in my JK, but I thought the dash/tower would block the light. I may have to give it a try.

Additional bonus:
I can mount is higher than the stock one so it won't block as much of the forward view (I'm 6'4" and usually have trouble with low rear-view mirrors).

They're also available on Ebay:

I am also taller and you can rotate your mirror 180 degrees to get a lot more viewing area. Now this won't solve the light issue but helps with the low stock mirror and costs $0.00.

Confirmed: An GM lighted rear view mirror does fit the stock mirror location. It's a direct bolt in. I used a #20 torx bit to remove the stock mirror, put the stock set screw in the old junk yard mirror and it fit perfectly. This mirror is from either an early 80's Firebird, or Gran Prix (or Cutless, etc.). I paid something like $4.00 for it. This one's only got one (left side), and fuse holder on the right. I know some have two switches.

I still need to run 12v power to the mirror to verify the light is directed rearward enough to clear the dashboard.

Unfortunately it's 23 degrees here and I'm stuck changing the ECM in the old CJ (one step toward selling it).

I hope this helps.

there is only 2 typs of mounts for rear view mirrors in the world
the jeeps shares the same mount with 90 percent of the world
what your missing is the self dimming feature no its not pointless
and if you were junk yard hunting for 80's stuff you should have got one of the older gm motorized self adjusting mirrors (they were retro cool )
