Teraflex or AEV 2.5" decision
I am torn between the teraflex and AEV 2.5" coil lifts. I have a '12 JK unlimited sahara which is 90% on road and 10% off road. We go wheeling a few times a year, but I would like those few times to be solid. I am plannig on 305/75-17 goodyear MTR's which is about 34" on undecided wheels. I do like the fact that for a jeep it currently really handles the curves well, and dont want to take too much of that away but I do realize it will be impacted.
I like the AEV because of its road manners, but I like the teraflex because it can be built as a more complete solution. While I know I dont "Need" LCA's and a new front trackbar I'd rather just do that now and avoid the potential for a headache latter. I cant afford for my wife to be driving this and get caught in a death wobble event. From what I have picked up here is that the AEV springs are nicer then the teraflex for road use? I dont like the idea of the geometry control brackets from AEV.
IF I get the AEV kit, what would be the best choice for the LCAs and a trackbar, would that be a teraflex or something different? Any other upgrades that should be made to this kit?
I have also looked at rock krawler but having a bracket welded to my rear axle is not something i want to do with a jeep under warranty.

well both lifts are oustanding quality , but i can only speak for the street manners of the aev kit as thats is the one i installed and currently use ( although its the 3.5 dualsport ) the street manners are great . but if you go with the 2.5 , there is a lot less involved , i don't believe you will have to do anything with the Lca's , exhaust spacers, etc. etc. . i also see that aev also offers a new 2" kit you might want to check it out too . i did alot of research , and went with the aev , because i am on the street most of the time , and " serious hard core " wheeling is not for me , just some weekend fun on the trails . tere flex and aev are the only kits i considered .
I'm running a 3.5" Rock Krawler and love it. Lifetime abuse proof warrenty, better than stock ride and upgradable to any of their other systems. I debated between AEV and RK and decided I wanted new componants not just new brackets. I know both are great but I would highly recommend RK. You camt go wrong with either. I had a Teraflex on my 08 and didnt like the ride, to stiff. Ended up trading it for an 11 Rubi.
I just Installed the teraflex one two nights ago it was pretty easy until we ran into some just random problems such as the track bar not lining up with the holes and my sway bar bolts being a bitch to get back on. Other than that my dad and I did it with 3 jacks and 4 Jack stands in his garage and got it done in about 6 1/2 hours so allow some extra time. Ive only drove it twice thus far :( but it was good on road. More updates to come.

What were your top 2 choices. What was the tipping point that caused you to choose AEV over others?

As soon as I put my 35's on I realized I wanted a bit more lift. Plus the 2.5" Teraflex lift has no control arms which was definitely noticeable. I should've researched a bit longer and shelled out a few more bucks. I like RKs warranty better. Plus the ease of upgrading with RK seems much less complicated. I also like the look of the RK stuff better. Also while everyone boasts about TF's service I emailed a few times about a small issue and was completely ignored. I do like the lift, don't get me wrong. Again I should've researched a bit longer and shelled out a few more bucks. At the time I really had no clue. I was over zealous to get it lifted. A friend of mine had already installed one and I was a bit intimidated by the whole process. For the price of TFs 2.5 it is a nice lift I'm in no way trash talking them.
I have emailed TF 2 or 3 times now about technical questions and have gotten no response, maybe its a sign of things to come.
Did you have the bracket welded to your rear axle for the RK?
Sorry to hear about your troubles with TF. They have always had top-notch customer service when I contacted them. Correct me if I am wrong but RK and TF both have lifetime abuse warranties on their products. Teraflex also makes some of the best control arms on the market. On the other hand RK makes some really bullet proof products too. You can order them and build your lift as you go just as you can with RK. Both products seem to be the best on the market. I was on the fence and went with Teraflex because their customer service was awesome and they told me exactly what I needed and what I didnt need. Rock Krawler was very helpful when I spoke with them too. I also talked to some of the guys at EVO but I just didnt want to spend that much on my lift at the time. I chose Teraflex because of the price, quality, warranty and the ability to continue to build my kit as I go. To me RK and TF are two super hot cousins that are identical except one is a blonde and the other a brunette. Just comes down to personal preference.
