Default Trail Grappler Question

The time is approaching to get some new tires. My duratracs have done everything I asked them to do but this time around I want a true m/t with some tougher sidewalls so ive settled on the trail grapplers.

My question is should I go with 35/12.5/17 load E or 315/70R/17 load D? Not very tire savy so all suggestions welcome

BTW 37s were considered but cant afford the upgrades right now

Do you want the extra weight/protection of the E load tire which is wider an about the same height or want to save a lil weight and get a skinner tire but not by much... It all up to what you use your rig for an what kinds wheeling you do.. I have the 35X12.50 for my DD an just hit logging trails an small quarries not crazy an climbing... I love mine but I don't think you can go wrong with either size

As you can see, there aren't a whole bunch of differences between the two when you look at the Metric (LT315/70R17D121/118Q) vs English (35x12.5R17LT E121Q). You sacrifice 1/32 in tread depth with the Metric. You also sacrifice 0.23" in the diameter with the Metric, but gain 0.08 in width. One noteworthy difference is the rim width allowances for the Metric is more generous ranging from 8.0 through 11. The biggest difference isn't visible in this portion of the chart, but is at the bottom of the chart. That is for the sidewall construction. The Metric, as you mentioned is D-rated (8-ply construction) where the English is E-rated (10-ply construction). The higher the ply, the more rugged the side wall, which translates to more puncture resistance, stiffer ride, and a heavier tire. Unfortunately the website does not disclose the tire weight. That will be pretty significant, especially when 4 or 5 tires are considered. The last significant difference is the cost. The Metric tire will likely be a bit more cost-effective ($322-ish) over its English sibling ($335-ish).

Thanks for the info so far everyone much appreciated. Im guessing the metric size with less plys and ligher weight would be a little more road friendly yes? AAnyone with any experience running the metric size as opposed to the straight 35?

I also went with the 35 12.50. They look huge and great. Have not mounted them yet.

I've got the E load 35x12.5x17 nitro trail grapplers and they are awesome. I run them at 28 psi and they run smooth and quiet. Had them on for 25k now and only half worn down. It's a great tire since you can put me on a F250 also, they are
great. Heavy, but great

I'm running the 315/75/17 on stock moabs. Love them. At the shop we put them next to a 35/12.5/17 and they measured the exact same unmounted (hand measured). They may be a little heavier' but its unsprung weight.
