Default Paint or Line-X rock rails?

Thinking of getting some rock rails that come bare metal. Not sure if I should use Rustoleum paint or do Line-X professionally done. Not concerned with cost difference but more interested in durability. If Line-X doesn't hold up, no point in spending the extra $$. I've read that powder coating can crack and chip but can't find info on Line-X and not the DIY stuff.

Should I do a professional Line-X on rock rails or paint myself?

I guess it depends on the kind of rocks you're going to drop 'em on, and where you live (weather).

I'd give them a real good coat of primer and paint em, personally. I've never been a big fan of powdercoating any armor that takes a beating. With good old fashioned Tremclad, I can hit it again at any time to clean up a scratch and stave off the rust.

Not sure how the line-x would hold up...but as per my paint comment, using a duplicolor spray-on liner (as opposed to line-x) you could touch up as required.

I would just spray them myself. Inexpensive and easy touch up

Line-x is durable the only problem I see is that when it goes on, it goes on thick! Its not fun to try and take it off in some areas.. I personally went with just a rattle can so I can have the peace of mind to be able to touch it up. Which rails are you going with?

Currently considering JCR Offroad Stage 2 sliders.

I live in East TN, Knoxville area and mostly wheel @ Windrock. So, not LOTS of rock to crawl like out west but enough to do damage. My previous Jeep was a 1993 XJ and I never did rock rails for it and my rocker panels were beat up front to back on both sides. I now have a JKU Rubicon but I need rails with steps per the wife's request. Currently leaning toward JCR but trying to decide on durability of Line-X. If it holds up to the occasional rock Meet N Greet then I'm willing to pay. Especially since I'm kinda lazy to repair. LOL! Laziness has a cost!

Bump...

Anyone with personal experience with Line-X on rock rails? Will it hold up? Thanks.
