Default Used my winch!

Only got my winch a few weeks ago. Went up into the hills this morning, and thoroughly enjoyed the drive and hiking a bit. On the way home, I found my path blocked by a rather large fallen tree:

My first thought was "crud, no saw with me." Then, "Hey, let's try to winch it out of the way!"

Rigged the "tree saver" and a big D-ring, and attached the 10,000 pound winch.

One of the benefits of the new synthetic line is that if it breaks, it doesn't snap back dangerously like cable does, so there's no need for a jacket or blanket over it. Applied some winch...

And POW! A huge snap! I was hoping to tug it out of the way, but the fallen tree broke. That worked too.

Re-rigged, and tugged it out of the way, then headed on up, over the ridge and back home.

I have really missed having a winch on my truck. Glad I got one for the Jeep! Useful things to have...

That's bad ass that you were able to move that huge tree.

I have a couple of questions
1) Do you have to stretch out synthetic line before you do a real pull like you do with the wire? Basically pull all the wire off and then spool it under a dummy load before the first use.

2) I'm assuming that the synthetic line came on the Engo winch when you got it. If so did it come with the black line saver (I'm not sure of the proper name) on the end, or did you put that on there. I don't see it in the ads.

Yes, I stretched it out and re-spooled it. Seemed like a good idea, just like with a steel cable.

Yes, the winch came with the black wrap to protect the line. I thought that was pretty cool.

Frankly, I was surprised that the tree broke like that... I was trying to tug the left (big) end of it around, and suddenly - Ka-Pow! It broke... That made things pretty simple.

That looks like a nice little road for a comfortable drive, where is that at? I am out of Moses Lake and I am always looking for places to explore...did shady pass couple weeks ago, awesome views of Lake Chelan.

Are you sure it won't snap back? I wouldn't trust that without seeing it tested several times. Nice job pulling the tree though.
