Default Cleaning 101 ????

Last time I was in a very sandy ORV park. A little bit of muddy and shallow water/mud crossings.
I cleaned all with a lot of water directly in the park and a pressure washer at home.

When I now lokked underneath my JK I was a bit shocked...... looked like a 10years old car. Dirty, a bit of rust at the skid plates and so on.
Ok, nothing serious but not nice.

When I was looking at the pic thread from the 2012 JK Experience I noticed GCM2 JK.......
One pic directly after the tour...... muddy and looking like sh.....
On one a week later all cleaned up.
I mean how can you get a rig so clean ?
I used a pressure washer but you have this dirt, residue all over all parts. And even if you use a brush you canīt reach all small edges, between the springs and ...
well you canīt reach everything.
How to get it so clean and shiny ???
It worked with the pressure cleaner in the motor compartment but not underneath the car, suspension and so on.

I'm in the same boat. I did a few deep muddy water crossings and everything underneath has a nice brown hue to it with the ocassional mud chunk. Even after pressure spraying. Especially all the little nooks and cranny's in the engine bay.

I think the best method is getting it cleaned fast while it is still a bit wet. I have heard to get a grass sprinkler and put it under your jeep for awhile. I might give that a shot. If you spray under the hood it would be a good idea to cover the mini snorkel to the air box (very front passenger side). It's probably a good idea to go light around the battery and fuse box too.

I'm looking forward to any other suggestions.

For me its a process every once in a while ill go to the carwash and spray underneath and then a few days later ill do it again. The only problems i have is that ninja mud thats in my fenders and front bumper. But i did find sumthing that worked and find a carwash with rim or tire cleaner and spray that on ur engine and than take the rinse cycle and carefully go over it. Mine cleaned up very well the first time i did it. Hopefully this helps

Simple Green and a stuff brush gets the mud and mud stains out of soft tops, tires, underbody, etc. spray it in with a spray bottle, give it a scrub and rinse.

put it up on a hoist or crawl underneath when its dry. remove ur transfercase skid(wear safety glasses and keep mouth closed) use a screwdriver and start chipping away and all the mud that has harden in your frame, around ur control arms etc etc. go into house and then get wife to chisel/scrap all the dirt off u and go take a shower.

This is the only way I have ever successfully got all the mud from the under body. I filled 1 1/2 5gallon pails full of dirt plus another 2.5 gallons of dirt. should improve fuel economy

When my JK was new I spent some time cleaning (detailing) the undercarriage. Once I had all the bare metal painted etc. I used Duplicolor Clear Coat and sprayed everything metal. The results make it look great and at the same time doesn't allow dirt to embed in the unprotected areas.

Pull out the pressure washer. Ready it for use. Get a creeper, put on goggles and lay on creeper.
Pressure wash your heart out for about 30-40 min.
Clean rest of JEEP, Dry and wax.
Then get back on creeper with a couple of cans of rustoluem (gloss black or flat black) and paint
affected areas.
Walla looks like new..

That's what I do once a month.

Living and wheeling in an environment that always has mud of some kind you learn a few tricks. The best way I have found to get rid of the dirt/mud "stains" that make the frame/axle/suspension look 20 years old is tire shine. Specifically the absolute cheapest foaming aerosol type you can find. If it is bad spray liberally let sit while you wash the rest of the jeep, rinse off then reapply and do not rinse. If you can find the "low sheen" kind it will keep from having that greasy look all the time
