Default 33's or 35's

We bought my wife a 2010 JK 4 door last weekend. She wants it lifted and wheels. I'm putting a 3" lift on it. My question is if I go with 35's will it kill her highway speeds. The Jk is an automatic. Should I stay 33's for her highway speeds. When I put 40's on my truck I regeared the heck out of it. I really don't want to regear her jeep. Any input would be much appreciated.

If you're worried about Hwy miles and will drive the vehicle daily, I would go with the 33's

perfect balance of lift and economy.

You don't have to regear if you put on 35s but anything bigger & you will. The JK still has almost the same amount of power that it does stock.

If you go with 3 inch lift and 33s you will wish you had 35s , I have a 3 inch lift and 35s I tried a 33 and it looked small to me but just my opinion

I have a 2009 JKUR and even with the 4.10 gears I think it is a dog with the stock 32s. I am debating the 33 or 35 question also. I have a RK 3.5 lift, but may end up going with 2.5 springs since that would accommodate 33s or 35s. If I go to 33s, I may just live with the gearing. If I go with 35s, I would definitely regear to 5.13. or 5.38. Take a look at the recommended gearing chart in the sticky under the modified JK Tech sub-forum. That will give you some idea of what is acceptable.

Also, I noticed that a few of the replies you have received so far are fairly new members (the last month or two) and I don't see what year Jeep they have. Those with a 2012 or newer JKU have the better engine and transmission (auto), and can get away with more tire without re-gearing than us.

I personally regret buying 295/70/17's (33.3") Although I still get near stock mpg's, and able to scoot pretty good on the freeway etc. I;m going to move up to 315/70/17's (34.4") so they're bigger but still able to safely run them without too many extra upgrades that 35's require.

Go with 35's. Turn off OD and you get instant 5.38 gears on highway.

To answer the op, yes you will have issues with O.D. with 35 and 3in. lift. Its not just the tire size, its also tire weight, rolling resistance and increased wind resistance from the lift. A head wind can make O.D. useless when trying to maintain 70 mph. People in big cities that rarely get to maintain the speed of 70 mph will tell you its fine.

Im running 35s with 4.88s and its ok. Still kicks out of O.D. with a good strong head wind. 5.13s would have been better for me.

I did drive it with 33s and 35s with 4.10s. 33s were fine, 35s fine around town and tolerable on freeway.

I agree with this post.... If you're going to pick 33's I'd go a bit smaller on the lift like 2.5"
Or get 35's with the 3" lift and like mentioned you don't need to regear but I would invest in a Superchip...... Good luck.
