Default Lift Kit Recommendations

Just bought a 2012 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited in April and am ready to get this baby lifted and some bigger rubber put on. I live in Indiana so the trails and off-road options are semi-limited and not nearly as aggressive as what you might find in more mountainous areas of the country. Anyhow, I'm eager to get some new wheels and run 305/70 17's or 35"x12.5" rubber. This is my daily vehicle, so 75% of the time it will be used on-road but I do want to have a lot of fun in it when I do get out off-road. I am already sold on Nitto Trail Grapplers or Toyo Open Country M/T's for tires and have some 17"x9" wheels in mind. Looking for some recommended setups for lift kits mainly.

So far in consideration for lifts are...

1) Rubicon Express 3.5" Standard Suspension System with their Rubicon Express Extreme-Duty Mono-Tube Shock Kit

2) Teraflex 2.5" spring lift with Fox 2.0 shocks

Please feel free to reply and let me know your thoughts on what would be best for what I'm looking to do.

Thanks!

of your two choices, i would go with the TF kit as it will yield more tha 3" of lift when all is said and done anyway and, they are on this forum a lot so you are sure to get support from them. having said that, you need to be aware that with this much lift on a 2012, you will have issues with your front drive shaft hitting the exhaust cross over. there are exhaust modifications you can do to help prevent this but, the better solution is to just get a new drive shaft. not only will it help with the contact issue, it will also address the driveline angle issue you will have. if you can afford it, i might also recommend getting a set of adjustable front lower control arms too. they aren't required but, they will allow you to set your caster and help out your handling.

Good advice!!

Would there still be problems say if I go with a 2.75 suspention and a 1" body lift combo. in other words does a body lift have the same effect as a suspention lift?

a body lift will not effect your driveline so, for the angle issue, it would help to go this route. however, the problem with drive shaft damage will not be in the amount of lift you have but rather, in the length of your shocks. even with a 2.5" lift, if you were to run longer than about stock length shocks as would be ideal, you would have enough droop to cause drive shaft damage and even eventual joint damage.

The 2.5" kit will lift your front up about 3.1" in the front with a stock bumper. With the longer Fox shocks, I would really consider changing out that front driveshaft if your going to do alot of off roading with it. Feell free to contact me if you have any more questions about this kit.

Cool, so you can at least start off with the exhaust spacers then keep an eye on that driveshaft.

Any brand/product recommendations on driveshaft replacement and/or exhaust spacer depending on which route I decide to go?

TeraFlex was the first company to come out with these.
