Default 16" x 7" rim...how big of tire is too big?

As stated, I have a 16x7 2007 rim on my sahara unlimited. I know that there is a thread that has stock wheels with 35" tires but no one really addresses this smaller (thinner?) rim. I would love to get 315s or 35s and I was told by a tire shop that they will mount it. The problem will be that it will not wear correctly and my handling or drivability will not be that great. I see that tire manufacturers state rim size ranges and everything between 33 (285) to 35 (315) state that an 8" rim or greater is recommended. Can someone please advise from a knowledge and experience background. I don't want to replace any new tires sooner than I would normally need to. Thanks in advance.

I had 285s on stock 16s for awhile and they rode fine. I have 315s now but I have aftermarket 16s instead cause u couldn't stand those stock rims

I run 35x12.50's on the stock Sahara wheels which are 7.5" wide with no problems. The main thing you need to do is make sure and do a chalk test and get the air pressure right so the tire has a flat contact patch with the road

Is that because of looks or some handling issue?

Don't risk your life, your passengers life's and every one else on the road cause you want to run a setup that's unsafe. Those tires are too big for those wheels and that shop should know better. Why not run some cheap 15x8.5's?
