Default Ripp supercharger/ Stock Exhaust System/ Blazing red headers and cats

Hi Guys,

I have auto 4.88 07 2dr JK with ripp supercharger and stock exhaust system. I have recently replaced my cats with a used but cleaner ones. The old cats were getting red right away which were on their way out.

Now with the above setup, i was pushing the jeep in the desert and noticed that the cats as well as the headers were blazing red. I mean i thought they would melt off. This is after perhaps 6 runs on a really big dune. Note that under normal driving condition on the street, or even when i run it hard it never get red hot even thu in the desert it was slightly cooler than the city.

It sounds here that my exhaust system is a bottle neck, or what do you guys think? i wouldn't mind throwing in long tube headers but i am really worried about the noise. Not sure what catback should i go with to quiet it down.

Please share your thoughts on what might be causing the problem or long tube and cat back combo to make the engine breathe (but quietly lol)

As always, thank you.

The exhaust getting red hot sounds wrong. You may have already melted you replacement cats. What tune are you running from RIPP?

As far as the RIPP headers go, do it if you have the money. They really help. I installed them with just the MBRP off road relocation exhaust. It was LOUD. Especially if you got on it. This is coming from someone with a corvette with 2 1/2" side pipes. I added the recommended hushpower resonator and it is great now.

Let me get this straight... you installed a ripp supercharger and left your exhaust stock? You installed a ripp supercharger and you're worried about NOISE? I'm laughing at you.

Nut up! Get ceramic headers, recycle the cats and straight-pipe that sh!t to a high flow muffler!

I'd suggest going RIPP headers and an exhaust with a good muffler. You might want to give RIPP guys a call or email. They deal with guys who want more power, but not more noise all the time.

i am using normal ripp tune that came with the kit. I am not using the one with headers. But you could be right about the cats. Thanks for sharing the info on the combo you had.

The problem that there are heavy fines for loud cars and trucks. The best off roading spots are in a city with really strict rules.

I hope someone come through with a good muffler suggestion. Even better if tried solution.

I'm sorry for being so hard on you. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uKmhx5INSU&sns=sms

Get headers and an exhaust cut out like this. There are several on the market. Closed system on the streets, open on the dunes.

You must live in Nazifornia...
PS: Fines for loud cars? How loud? I have a flowmaster 40 dual out and it is only loud when i want it to be or when im on the throttle... i have a 6 speed, so i can pick a gear, which makes a difference. The muffler is dot approved, so theres nothing the fuzz could really do about it if they think im too loud. Been running this system for 3 years and never even had the notion that i might be pulled over for any reason.
