I see there are threads that say Smittlybilt is not a good rock rail. What is the best out there that will last and fit good?

 

i bet theres many opinions on this. i ran rockhard skids on my last jeep. they are boat type with a 4 in wide top plate. very durable. they bolt to the body mounts and by bolting to the tub/body. some people do not like drilling the body on the're new jeep,but i ran em hard and would get them again

Thanks. I'm wanting to get step bars but I might just get rock rails and make some modifications.

depends on what you do with them...if your hard on it then weld on is the only way to go...i have seen even the best bolt ons do major body damage when beat on hard enough,if not and you are mostly looking for a step then most will be fine although smitty is the bottom of the barrel in terms of quality in my book...

 

I run Ace Engineering. Fit wasn't 100% perfect (about 95%), but very happy with rails (2010 Rubi Unlimited).

 

I won't be hard on them but I live where they salt the roads if it calls for snow so I need rails that will last through any weather.

 

Why wasn't it perfect? About to pull the trigger on these for my JKU.

 

Frame mounted are almost as strong as welded and definitely better than body mounted. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone with frame mounted that had body damage caused by the sliders bending in.

LOD are both frame mounted and provide a flat stepping area. They take the most abuse you can give them, look great and serve a purpose above and beyond protection since they double as a step. Plus, they have been on Jk's longer than most sliders with very few complaints.
