Default OME Coils for a '12 JK

I want to do a little bit of a budget boost for my Wrangler. Ive done some searching and read reviews and Ive basically heard nothing but good things about the Old Man Emu coils, I'm thinking of getting the heavier ones because I'd like to add a bumper/winch combo in the future.

Although, I do have a few concerns. Are the coils a pain in the ass to install or is it pretty straight forward? I've owned coil sprung rangers but I never had to change a coil out. My other concern is that after I install the heavier coils, but before I install the bumper/winch combo, is the Jeep going to ride like a brick? I have 10 ply all terrain tires and it does ride a little rough but I am used to a torsion bar IFS in my ranger.

I'll probably upgrade the shocks while Im at it too, thinking of OME or Bilstein

Also, here's the links:

Old Man Emu 2616 - Old Man Emu 2" Lift Front Heavy (90-180lbs)/Light (0-90lbs) Load Coil Spring Pair for 07-13 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

Old Man Emu 2618 - Old Man Emu 2.25" Lift Rear Heavy Constant Load (150lbs)/(300lbs) Coil Spring Pair for 07-13 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

Any info would be appreciated, thanks guys

The issue is the 3+ inches of lift from the coils and the need to replace many more parts. Adjustable control arms, adjustable track bar, longer sway bar end links, brake line extension brackets, etc. I didn't even mention everything. Read the threads here for more detailed info

Ok, thanks. I didnt think I would need all of that. But in other words I would be better off buying a whole kit instead of just the coils. Do you think i would be better off just buying a set of the Rubicon coils?

Take your time with the idea of a budget boost. Its not a terrible idea, but once you start you may find you want more later. It might be a better idea to save up a bit for the full kit and include things like adjustable sway bars and steering stabilizer if you want it. I have the OME heavy duty kit on my 12JKU and love it, but I did everything at once.

Love my OME lift but as others said there are more components you'll probably want. Installation of the coils is not hard. As long as you can lift the frame of the Jeep high enough to allow the axle to drop you can just slip them in. When I did mine I used jack stands on top of some solid blocks of wood to support the frame.

Also check out Northridge 4x4.com They are a forum sponsor and seem to have the best prices on OME, plus they have a kit option which easily allows you to add other stuff you want/need.

I've used OME shocks on a TJ and now on my JK and I think they ride great. Very smooth.

I went with the OME light/medium load and only replaced LCAs to add more caster.

Ok, thanks for the info guys.

Do you think that I would just be better off ordering Rubicon coils? And if so, would I need to do any other mods along with the coils? (like brake lines, control arms etc)

There is a thread on coils here specifying the highest factory rated coils. Basically it the
4dr rubicon w/tow package coils will net you the highest factory height. You can put in coil spacers or leveling kits for roughly the same coin...
