Having PSC steering assist issues.....
As an opener, my name id David and I currently own Doug's (Slippery) old Jeep. The set up is Dana 60 Rock Jocks front and rear. It has the PSC hydraulic assist pushing against a double dog legged tie rod (straight in the middle and angled back slightly towards the ends). I'm assuming it was bent this way to provide clearance for the diff cover. The problem is that when turning to the left, the ram pushes the tie rod forward and pulls it rearward when turning right due to increased leverage from dog legs. This is wearing the hell out of my TREs. I originally bought the Ruff Stuff offset TREs but didn't install for two reasons. 1). They were threaded backwards, 2). adding these would only increase leverage on TREs. If the leverage thing was not an issue, I would simply cut off and reweld the hydraulic ram tabs on the tie rod to the bottom and flip it (can't just switch sides with the offset TRE as they would then point up when angled back). After eyeballing the tie rod, I believe I could get a straight bar in there and still have at least 1/2-3/4" clearance. Unfortunately, even with the bent tie rod, there is contact between ram mounting point on axle side when turned to the right full lock. This obviously wouldn't allow room for a straight tie rod. Any ideas? How is your system set up to avoid this issue?
try the ruff stuff with the offset TRE's, but instead of welding ram tabs directly to the tie rod, use a poly tie rod clamp (p.n PSC-TRCL07) so you can loosen it and make easy toe-in adjustments. The kit is build with left hand and right hand threaded TRE's so you are able to get a good grip on the tie rod and twist it to adjust your toe with ease. It will make your life easier.
Well the offset TREs I already have sitting in a box. Again, whether I reweld them to the bottom and flip the TRE or use that sleeve, the issue of too much leverage being placed on the joints when turning does not change. I need less leverage to fix the problem.
