Winch question
I have a 2012 JKU and I soon plan to purchase a winch. I'd like to get the smallest/cheapest winch that will pull me out when stuck...I'm worried about weight..will a 9000 lb. be too weak for my JKU or do I really need the 9,000 lb winch? Thanks
I bought a Superwinch lp8500. Never failed to get me out of being stuck yet. Pulled a few buddies out also, 2 dr and 4 dr's. Paid $370 Canadian for it. It's doing fine till I get a waterproof one.
My rugged ridge 8500 pound winch with synthetic rope did a great job the other day. Its fairly light too! The rule of thumb is at least get a winch with a capacity of atleast 1.5 times the weight of the vehicle. So even with bumpers and armor you are looking at 5000 pounds so anything winch over 8000lbs should do you good.
Most importantly have a good charging system with a good battery. Doesn't matter what winch you have, if your battery is crappy the winch wont work to its ability. Seen it happen before.

I was told by a buddy that works at Chrysler that the frames on the jeeps are rated for 9000lb anything more and u risk stretching ur crumple points that are in the frame. I run a 8000lb on my jeep seems just fine.
