Default Leaking axle seals...outer axle seals an option?

My front axle seals keep leaking. I recently had a gear job done and both front axle seals sprung a leak. Had both seals replaced with new ones and now they are leaking again. I am running Royal Purple 75w140 and I really don't like to see it on my sidewalls and on the ground. Are the outer axle seals worth while? Any brand thats better than another? It's a pain changing the inners and my success rate has been low so far but I really want to get these suckers sealed
up!

Something doesn't sound right, but outer seals are not a fix to this problem. I don't know who is putting these in or what brand they are but if I were you I would get mopar seals and take it to a gear specialist to have them installed. The outer seals may help for a while but they too will leak if the inners are leaking.

**stupid phone** They started to leak again. I'm not sure if they used mopar seals. I'm thinking about just doing it myself this time around so I know whats going on in there. I was hoping the outer seals would be a quick fix hah.

What I've heard is you want to replace both inter and outer seal every time the axle is pulled. And you must be careful reinstalling the axle. Keeping it strait and square. And if you do it your self take the axles to a lathe to make sure it's not bent at all.

Check your axle shafts as well. It is possible that if dirt and mud got in there you can get wear and grooves ground into the shaft wear it meets the seal and it may not be sealing well anymore. I had this happen to me on a Jeep Comanche I had years ago.

The only real fix is to take it back to the shop who did the gear work and have them replace the inner seals. They probably damaged the the seals when they reinstalled the axles into the differential. I would hope they would stand by their work and warranty the replacement seals with labor.

The changed the seals once already after the gear change. Charged me the cost of the seals. My Jeep is at the dealer tomorrow for a cracked manifold, I'll see if they'll change them under warranty, if not I'll give the gear install shop a call again. Stupid seals!

Is there a possibility of an over filled axle? How much gear oil did they put it?
