Default Newbie to JK, critique my build plan

I just bought a (new to me) 2007 JK Rubicon. I want to keep a LCG, so my plan is to go to 35x12.5 inch tires. I would like to run 15" rims, but need advice on which is better: 15,16, or 17? and why? I plan on getting aftermarket rims with 3.75~4.00 backspacing (I don't care for the spacers) to eliminate rubbing at full lock. I also plan on putting metal cloaks all the way around to accommodate the needed room for articulation. I also plan on modifying the pinch weld in the rear and using bumpstops up front. I'm not opposed to a 2.5 inch suspension lift, but would like to avoid any lift if possible.

Welcome! So basically you plan to do the good ole 35"s with no lift trick.. You can get away with it as long as you do not plan to wheel or articulate at all. I would strongly urge you to throw on a 2.5" lift. Teraflex makes a great one. You may also find that the right lift will make your ride a lot more comfortable and handle better.

X2 on getting a 2.5 lift.

I have no experience with other lifts, but I can vouch for the Old Man Emu 2.5lift, standard if you will keep your ride mostly stock, HD if you will armor up.

You will need to do something with the fenders. If you are going MC on the control arms you can look at their 2.5" suspension lift package.

Yeah, I am going to put the metal cloak fenders all the way around. I wasn't planning on changing the control arms since I'm not putting on a lift.

No articulation? even with the high line fenders? I know my uptravel will be limited due to the bumpstops, but the down travel should be good? Can you explain why it wouldn't?

Post pictures. Those fenders look good on their website.

Your rig may not like the 35s without a regearing. I have 33s and the mini-van engine has a little trouble keep those up to speed. You may also look at a leveling kit of some sort.

My buddy with a 2005 RUBICON is running 35's on his 4.10 gearing and says its okay, but then again, he's got the inline 6 too.

I am used to running 4.88's with the 35's that were on my TJ... As for wheeling it, I did just that on Sunday and I was quite impressed with the Rubi. It only confirmed that I want to leave the suspension alone if I can, but can definately have more fun with the clearance from the 35's.
