Aftermarket wheels on stock JK
Hey folks,
I have a '09 Rubi Unlimited and was looking to get some wheels and tires ordered within the next week or two. I am not completely savvy when it comes down to offsets, backspacing, tire size, etc... so I am looking for some help and advice.
I have not lifted my jeep due to the cost right now, but may in the future, so it's all stock, except for some smittybilt rock sliders I put on there.
I am looking to get 18" XD Monsters with 285/65/18 Nitto Trail Grapplers. From what I've been reading on these forums is that the 18" wheel and that tire should be the biggest tire I can fit on the wheel on a stock jeep without any problems on/off road without rubbing or modifying.
Does anybody know of this to be true, can I go bigger?, do I have to go smaller? without any problems on/off road?
OR what do I have to do to get the biggest tires possible on my rig with doing some simple modifying... spacers maybe? I don't know if they would help, but I have been reading about people using them to make the tire stick out of the wheel well farther.
Thanks so much!
Mike

Just added: I am also doing some more reading. I found a picture of a Red Jeep unlimited with the same wheels and bigger tires than the one I am looking at, but they have a DayStar leveling kit from their description.
From my understanding a Leveling kit could raise the body of my jeep up and allow me to get a bigger tire on the jeep without any problems with rubbing/turning on/off road?
This seems to be the cheaper alternative for the time being other than actually spending a few thousand $ on a lift kit?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

The guy that gave me the quote said,
"Unfortunately the Monster is not made 17" but would be only $787.50 for 5 wheels in 18". The (5 tires) 285/65/18 Nitto Trail Grappler MT would be only $1289 and TPMS would be only $42 EACH installed.
S&H for the full package of 5 would be only $248."
I have contacted him about Fuel Off Road - Pump in 17" as well... waiting for his quote back. - Correction: The Fuel pump quote has been scrapped being that they only come in 20".
Do you think a leveling kit would help avoid rubbing/trimming of anything if I decided to go with a bigger tire? Just for the time being until I can get some funds for a real lift kit.
