Default Heavy vibration issue followed by noise

So I got my gears done last week and had no issues. Tonight I'm on the highway, hit 60mph and get a real bad vibration starting right after shifting into 6th. I pull over and take a look and there is smoke coming from where the rear drive shaft meets the diff. Drive for a little and every time I push the clutch I get this metal metal grinding sound coming from the rear. I stop again and there is oil splatter on the rear diff and oil dripping down the centerline of the rear diff.

What do I do from here?

Who did your gear swap? Sounds like something came loose. I would give them a call.

Don't drive it anymore!! If that rear pinion lets loose it could also take out your transfer case. Believe me I know!

What exactly happened there? What did the shop that did your gears say? What was the outcome?

Holy moly, I cannot believe you kept driving after seeing smoke. I would've turned around and taken it right back right that second. Stop driving it, and have it towed back to their shop on their dime.

Looks like they didn't torque his pinion bearing/nut down properly...and it ate his pinion gear up.

EDIT: just realized this post is from 2012.

That is one thing really drives me crazy about the new format.....not seeing the date of the OP on the main forum unless you dig in to the thread.
