How do you brake in a new winch cable?

Default How do you brake in a new winch cable?

Ok so I had to get a new cable for my winch. What's the best way to brake it in before I have to use it? Iv read a lot on this and I see lots of things about it I'd just like the eazyist way to do this thank you

Hook up to a tree preferably on a slight incline or set your park brake two or three clicks and spool it up evenly making sure not to overlap the cable.

I had mine on an incline and attached the hook of the cable to a parked truck. Then I winch mine in with the jeep in neutral under a load making sure the cable did not over lap.

Damn didnt know i was sposed to. Should have read the directions. I guess getting stuck was my first time breaking it in

Thank you guys I'm going to have to do this really soon. Before I have to use it agin. Dose any one know what could happen if this didn't happen first?

What can happen is the cable could push the lower wraps aside and jam itself under lower wraps when the pressure is released.

My old house I had a perfect tree on a slight incline.

Tighter the better but it's more important to have it loop correctly so it's a fine balance
