Yeah so im in the midst of nowhere 30° out, came upon some ice covered ruts, go to put it in 4H, well I dont have 4H or low, my transfer shift doesnt do anything all the sudden... Fml

Got nothin, cant see anything with my flashlight, front driveline looks lifted but I just got off road and havent gone over anything, it went in 4hi this.morning when I.was in town and slid the ice... Anyone had this.problem??

Sounds like the plastic clip on the shifter linkage broke. You can reach up there and manually shift it if need be. By up there I mean on the transfer case.

Does that just break? I had no shift resistance on the first try, it just dropped into 4hi and did nothin

Yea it's plastic, if the shifter moves freely without engagement it points to linkage and most likely the clip.

Why?
Not vaccum activated like the older Jeep.

Have 10-15 of those plastic clips in the glovebox. Give them away to fellow JK owners. Only about 20cents each.
