Doesnt want to go into gear when switching 4wd modes
I did a search but i think the keywords are too common to give me good results.
I have a 2012 auto and sometimes when switching from 4hi to 4lo or vise versa, it doesn't want to shift from neutral into drive or reverse. Then after a couple tries, it just works. This happen to anyone else? Anyone know what might cause it or how to fix it?

4hi is shift on the fly. I still slow down and don't give any throttle or brake . I also don't force it. As far as 4low, I come to a complete stop then let it roll a little then pull softly into 4low. After braking those stupid clips I learn the tricks. Having to lay on your back in the mud to get it out of 4low gets old very fast.
I know 4hi is switch on the fly. I have no problem getting into 4hi or 4lo. The problem is when I'm already in one of those modes and switch to the other. Then I try to shift from neutral to drive and nothing happens. So then I try reverse, still nothing. Usually on the second or third try it will pop into gear and be fine. All of this is while at a complete stop.
So once your in, its hard to get it out of 4hi or 4 low. Maybe your transfercase cable is lose? I would check your linkage under the center console or at the transfercase side. See if anything is lose, broken or have a lot of wear. I would also check your transfercase fluid level/ change the fluid.
Ok, I don't know if I'm explaining this wrong or if maybe there's something that I just don't understand. As far as I can tell, it goes into and out of 4hi and 4lo just fine. Maybe that's where I'm wrong. Maybe even though the selector lever seems to engage just fine and my dash lights indicate that I am in 4hi or 4lo, maybe the transfer case hasn't fully engaged. After putting it in neutral and moving the selector lever to the desired 4 wheel mode, it then sometime takes multiple tries to shift my gear selector (not the transfer case selector) from neutral into drive or reverse.

I was having the same problem, as stated above i had to get out lay in the mud and shift out of 4-lo..
There are 2 possible solutions here:
1: Take a strong flathead screwdriver (the longer the better) and insert on top of the transfer case cable. Put some preasure downwords on the cable. if this works you will hear a click.
2: Buy a new cable.. mine was only like 65 bucks from mopar. And lemme tell you, this is know fun task to replace.
Hope this helps

I feel like all the responses I've gotten are referring to a different problem. As far as I can tell it goes into 4lo just fine. The lever doesn't bind, it just slides right in with smooth constant pressure. And my problem also sometimes occurs when switching from 4lo to 4hi. Could this cable cause this?
