3" lift question from a noob...
Hi all, I dont have a jeep yet... but will be getting a 4 door Rubi by the end of next Jan. Of course im already looking at a 3" lift, 35" tires... this mopar kit is calling me MOPAR P5156140 - MOPAR® Performance 3" Lift Kit with Fox Shocks for 12-13 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door - Quadratec. I would love to hear your opinion on this kit. I come from a track orientated type driving and have modified a track prepped Porsche on my own. The Rubi will be a weekend toy with some DD. I know I can install this kit myself, but will prob let a dealer do it for warranty reasons... or will they even honor a warranty? Depending on the type of mod I do with the porsche suspension (geometry alterations)... wheel alignment is a must, a yearly routine. With these type of lift kits installed... Ive never/rarely seen anyone mention wheel alignment. Is it necessary to do? The geometry of these kits changes the suspension so drastically you think wheel alignment should be mentioned more... But like I said, I come from a different driving background and always wanted to experience the off-road driving... this board is just so full of information, hats off to you guys/gals.... and thanks for schooling me.
Here's a pic of my other weekend toy... wich Im selling to get the JK.

It is a good kit. The local dealer here puts them a ton of them on the Jeeps on the lot and they look great. Fox makes really good shocks too. As far as how they do off road I am curious as well because I personally don't know someone that has one. I wouldn't hesitate to use that lift
You get absolutely NO additional warranty benefits when a dealer installs a lift versus another 4x4 shop. Both will generally provide the exact same 12month/12k mile warranty on the install and parts, nothing more.
The standard 3yr/36k factory (Chrysler) warranty will NOT cover the MOPAR lift, the install, or other parts; nor will it cover any damage that they determine occurred as a result of the lift. (blown drive shafts, bent axles, etc).
Any dealer that tries to tell you otherwise is lying, or you need to demand to see it spelled out in writing. IF they do offer a full 3/36 warranty on the lift and install, in writing, then it will be that dealership (and that dealership only!) that would have to service any/all future warranty claims.
That said, I recommend driving it stock for a while while you get used to it and do the research to select a better lift and other mods for your specific needs...

thanks for the feedback guys... i know this kit is expensive and doesnt have the adjustability like some of the similar priced kits. im considering this kit because of the fixed arms... simpler less maintenance. Thank younfor the advice on driving it for awhile till i know what works for me. Will let you know how this goes... and looking forward to spending time on this board.

There's a whole lot of variance between different dealers about what they'll cover under warranty. A local dealer might have a policy about covering lifts that they install, but it wouldn't be anything official from Jeep. Find a mod friendly dealer and you're warranty experience will be much better.
Alignments on JK's is really limited to toe-in. Caster can be changed via adjustable front control arms, but camber is fixed.
Nice to see your 996 on the track. A Porsche that never sees the track is like a Jeep that never sees the dirt.

Like the one guy said if you can get the kit covered then have the dealer do it but only if its in writing, but more than likely not. I understand that mopar is a good company but i have to say that for that price there is a lot more you can get and do to your jeep. There is many companies that sell full long arm and coil overs for that. Being said if you got money to blow go for it. IMO you should look into a rock krawler i have one and its great and cheaper than the mopar. Also cant beat the abuse proof warranty. You break it they pay for it
. Oh yeah and i agree you gotta drive it around and get a feel for it before you jump right into a lift without have a jeep before

The "Mopar" lift is actually manufactured by Teraflex for that particular part number. It is a good lift and high quality.
As mentioned Rock Krawler does provide excellent lifts (with tons of options), all of which had the ability to upgrade as you go. Take a look at our Facebook Page for pictures and videos of our JK with the 2.5" Rock Krawler X Factor Plus Lift.

Get it in writing. If they don't say EVERYTHING is covered including the extras then your up a creek. And as he said only that dealer. Theta the biggest reason I didn't pay for the 100k mile warranty. I can't wait that long to lift. It's hit and miss on dealers that cover lifted jeeps.
I'm running that exact lift I have 7500 miles on my jeep and have nothing but good things to say about the lift I'm running 35s bfg km2 on 17 inch rims jeep rides great of road performance has also been awesome . Jeep is very tight no rattles or noises as of yet from suspension .
