Default Harbour freight winch??????

I'm not planning to do alot of off roading and saw a winch at harbour freight for $50. I know you get what you pay for but, $400-$500 for something I may use 2-3 times seems excessive. Anybody have any experience with them?????

Default I've got one.

Hi there,

I have the 12000 lb model and a friend of mine has the 9000lb model. Both work great in our opinions...And we have the wireless remote setups too which are nice.

They ARE slower than other brands out there, but I am not sure when I would want to "winch fast" anyway...

My .02 cents...

$50? Sure that isn't the ATV winch? About the only thing that will do for you is give you a little nudge if your hung up on a rock. You need the 9000 they make. And it's more expensive than some of the winch specials in the sponsor section.

I'll check them out . Thanx Any suggestions on a cheap reliable one that might only get used once or twice?

Well, the words and cheap and reliable often do not pair well together, lol - but that being said; Smittybilt is the first name that come to my mind - fairly cheap, and just about every Jeep I've come across with a winch in the front has either a Smitty or a Warn.

We have Smitty winches on our two Jeeps as well, tough thus far I've only ever had to use one of them once.

A 9000 lb Engo can be found for around $270 and seems to be the best value for someone who doesn't plan on needing it. A winch is like a fire alarm or the sawed-off shotgun I keep for home protection. You hope you don't need it, but if you do it damn well better work.
