Duratracs vs GY MTR Kevs??
I did a search on this and all that came up is KM2 vs Duratrac.
What is your thought on this? I am getting some in 2 weeks. I live in Denver. Snow is a factor in winter and I do mostly moderate trails. Some rock crawling, not big on mudding, and just the casual backcountry explorer. Plan on Moab this coming summer.
I love the look and design of the MTRKs especially the kevlar sidewall. Also heard good things about them.
But I love the snow rating on the duratracs, and they seem like a AT with an agressive MT look. Kinda cool

MTR's had some balancing issues about 4 years ago on the first runs Goodyear did, I have not seen a new post about the issue in a LONG time...just old ones if you search.
MTR's are not really a snow tire, so I would agree...Duratracs

I talked with a discount tire store manager, (western slope) a few weeks ago about DuraTracs. He said they were very good in snow and that is the preffered tire with the trucks that have snow plows on. I went a different direction so I don't have any first hand knowledge of the DuraTracs. After two sets of MTRs, (one old style & one new) the MTRs are useless in the snow.......even dangerous. I now use KM-2s in the summer and Michelin X-ICE in the winter........works well for me, living at 8,000' & 200+ inches of snow in the winter. I will say the MTRs were excellent off road & rock tires. Never had a problem with balancing, (rotated them every 1500-2000 miles).
I went with the MTR/K's because I wanted 37's and I love them so far, though I only have about 8k on them so far. They are also lite, which I love. Were I to stay at 35's though, I would have gone with duratracs, I honestly don't think you can go wrong with either.

I own both BFG KM2's and GY Duratrac's installed on two different trucks. I like them both for different reasons. The BFG's have strong sidewalls, excellent traction in sticky mud, dirt and on rock but surprisingly aren't great in snow and suck on ice. The Duratrac's are great on snow, good on ice and a great all around tire. I can't speak for how they do on slickrock like that found at Moab though so someone else will have to chime in about that. I was a BFG A/T man for years but now swear by the Duratrac's.
Thanks for all the replies guys.
I think after the info I got from you guys it sounds like the duratracs are kind of the jack of all trades. The deep and more spaced tread pattern might do better in mud and rocks as compared to other A/Ta, plus all the siping they have must make it the good snow tire it is.
Even though the MTR Ks look much better and I'm sure perform better in mud and rock, I otta be smart and go with what's best for my conditions here in CO. I know the BFG MTs I have now make my jeep slide like crazy in the snow. Even in 4hi I'm slipping more than my moms front wheel drive Toyota Matrix. Lol great off road tire though.
The Duratracs are the tire for me hands down.

I have had my GY Duratrac on my Jeep for almost two years now. I love them. Just came home in this bad snow storm and they handled perfectly. They are great on the trail also. After almost 25000 on them they still look new.
