Default What Winch should I buy?!

I just recently purchased a 2011 JKU Rubicon and am very new to the whole jeep thing. I am looking to upgrade my jeep so that I can go off roading, camping, and exploring. I have no upgrades or mods on my jeep yet. I have done a little research and it seems to me that the first thing I should buy is a new front bumper and Winch. I have no idea though which Winch I should purchase. I heard Warn was the best... I also need to know big I need to get like 8k 9k or 10k? Looking to save some money in this department and thought I could buy one off of craigslist. Any thoughts, ideas, and words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!?!?!?!

There's tons of guys that mount a winch into the stock bumper. It was my plan to do that, until I happened upon a great deal on my Rugged Ridge XHD modular stubby bumper.

There's tons of bumpers that have built in winch plates. Start looking at what bumper you might like from the looks and price. Then look at if you want a stubby or full width.

There's great reviews on the Engo winches, and they're really low priced. Personally, I'm saving up for a Driver Winch. They are some of the cheaper winches out there. It's only $309 for a 12k winch, and I've got a friend who has one he likes.

I have the LoD Armor-Lite Mid Width with Engo 9K/synthetic. It's no Warn but it meets my needs...

First of all you don't have to do a thing to your Jeep to do all the things you listed. That is the beauty of getting a Jeep.

Now if you want to have a winch just in case you need to help someone that isn't a bad idea. I have a superwinch 9.5 on my sport and have pulled lots of things up stuff that I drove up. So yeah they are handy for helping out the less fortunate that you might find out there on the trail.

I like the look of your bumper. Can you tell me what it weighs roughly, without the winch?

Very happy with my Q9500i from Quadratec so far - Quadratec Q-Series Self Recovery Winches with Integrated Solenoid - Quadratec

You really need to take into account specs, price point and how you will use it to make the best decision. Good luck -
