Default need help: possibly a dealer/service is screwing with me on repairs

Not sure where this thread goes, but my jeep is modded so I thought here.

Heres the problem. Went off roading in my Jeep this past weekend, and got stuck in a slough because it was too rutted out and I got high centered. Stuck pretty bad actually, I got a little water in one of the floor boards! I had to call a friend with a 4WD tractor to pull us out, the other vehicle couldnt budge it. So, it sat there for a few hours.

As I was driving home, it went in to limp mode (only gave me 3rd gear). Next day I take it by the dealership and tell them to do a txfer case and tranny flush to be safe. He calls back and says the txfer case is fine but the Jeep is only giving them 1st and 2nd gear now. Says the valve body (I think he said valve body) may have got wet and that might fix it. I say go ahead. He JUST called and said the new VB didnt fix it and I need a rebuild or new transmission. REALLY???? So a new VB wont fix this? I thought this is the very thing that told the gears when to switch.

Am I wrong in my assessment? Also, is it possible that it would only switch from 1 and 2? That sounds odd to me.

Listen, I know I screwed up by not having an out plan, we are past that. So please save the should-haves and should not-haves. I understand my expensive mistake.

Right now I am sitting at $1750 in repairs before this tranny ordeal. :(

Sounds like an electronic issue to me but without seeing the Jeep myself its hard to say for sure. I mean if at first you only had third and now only first and second are working its sounds like mechanically its working but electronically its not shifting right.

A shop rebuilt my 99 Ram tranny and it went 1-3...then wouldn't downshift back past 3 after that.... I gave it back to them, the next day it was fixed.... Said it was just shift times...... Sounds funny the dealer wants to REPLACE/REBUILD ur tranny for that.... I'd get second opinion.....
