Looking for aggressive AT tire - 285/75/17 or 285/70/17?
I'm looking for new tread for my 2010 Unlimited Mountain Edition with automatic and 3.73's. I currently have the stock BFG KM MT 255/75/17. Looking to go to an AT tire, but on the aggressive side and want to go up in size. I have a 2.5 inch Teraflex lift and the stock BFG's look too small. I want a tire that walks the line of being aggressive looking, good on-road and off-road, fills the wheel well better, but doesn't destroy my gas mileage and performace (I have a superchip flashpaq to help the slug along
. I also realize I can't get everything, which is why I'm looking for the size and tire that "best" fits what I'm going for. I was thinking about the Toyo Open Country AT2 in 285/75/17 or 285/70/17, both E-rated. I would like to go for the bigger of the two for off-road and looks, but not sure how much I will lose with the additional size/weight. Not a lot of options in the 285/75/17 size but seems to bridge the gap between going bigger but not too big for my purposes. Thoughts?

Goodyear Duratrac tires, hands down best a/t tire on the market.... Don't think ull hear anyone here argue that either! Lol as for size I always say bigger is better but ur probly gonna rub.... Get some 1.75" wheel spacers and ull be fine! Nice and cheap and ul be sticking out a lil....
A buddy of mine runs nitto a/t 285/65R18 (equal to ur 285/70R17) but he has 1.75" Rough Country wheel spacers.... See

This shot let's u see the how the spacers push the wheels out

Nice truck. If I was to go 285/70/17 I would highly consider the Duratracs, although pricing on the Toyo's is much better, so I'd have to weigh that one out. Unfortunately there is no 285/75/17 option in the Duratrac, which is where the dilemma of sizing comes into play. GY Duratrac and Toyo AT2 in 285/70/17 is basically a 33", whereas the Toyo in 285/75/17 is closer to 34" (I know neither will truly measure up, but basing on manufacturer stated diameter). I feel like the 285/70/17 is an upgrade, but maybe slightly less than I want. However if the tradeoff is my jeep not keeping up at highway speed (not planning to re-gear) and a significant loss in mpg, then maybe what I want and what I should get don't line up.

And BTW, it will have a true 34/11.5/R17 option- perfect mud tire size.
Why not consider the BFG MK2's in the 285/75/17? I know you are looking for an all terrain, but IMO the KM2's are quite a bit better on the road in comparison to the stock rubicon mudders.
If you are insisting on a true all terrain, those new Toyos look very nice and they have the size you are looking for.
