Default 1st Gear Question - 4:10's, 6-Speeds, 35s

Model in question: 2013 Rubi 2-door, 6-speed, 4:10 gears (all stock)

The only time I can utilize 1st gear is when I'm creeping around off-road, otherwise 1st gear is way too low for me out on the street. I always start off in 2nd gear.

So I'm wondering if by changing my factory Rubi tires to 35s, will 1st gear be more usable on the street?

I'll be installing a lift soon and I'm on the fence between 33s or 35s (per tire mfg specs).

Thanks!

if you are thinking 35's, go with 35's. You will wish you did if go with 33's. I know cause I was on the fence too, and went with 33's, and now regret it. should've just went 35's.

How is first gear too low for you on the street? It's the perfect gear to use so you don't really have to slip the clutch much at all to get going. Yeah, it's a short shift to 2nd, but once you're moving, you never really see 1st again until you're stopped and have to get going again.

To answer your question, yes, the 35's will make 1st feel a little longer

I just ordered a 2013 rubi six speed. Your thoughts on it (good/bad)? New seats/engine/etc?

Was that for me?

We've got a 2013 Rubi Unlimited. The new engine is definitely worth it (we owned a Jeep with the 3.8 before). The seats are a nice improvement over the 2012's. Same function, but the cushions feel a bit longer and a bit softer on the hips and legs. Jeep's done a really good thing here with the new engine, new interior, etc.

To me, there's just no since in starting off in 1st, because as soon as I do, I'm shifting into 2nd. If I start in 2nd, I'm down the road a lot faster than if I start in 1st. The Jeep starts off in 2nd so easily.....why waste my time in 1st?

I usually skip 2nd. Start in second if I'm going downhill. 1st seems easier on the clutch

You skip 2nd? Do you go 1, 3, 4, 5, 6?
