Default First lift, some advice would be great!!

Hey guys, just picked up a Rought country 3.25'' lift, and a ready lift adjustable front trackbar for my 2Dr 2010 Sahara, got a great deal, and pumped to install, however had some questions as follows:

1. Iv read a lot regarding adjustable control arms, and how they will improve ride quality, is this something i can hold off on until i get the lift in, and get them shortly after?

2. If i go with the control arms, iv heard some recommend upper, some recommend lower, some recommend both, id love to do both however i am budgeted.

3. Other then what i have, and my control arm inquiries, am i missing anything further??

Thanks guys,

Richard

My rccomenation would be lower front upper rear. That gives you proper adjust ability. Also a rear track bar would be adviseable as well to keep everything running true.

X2 on the control arms. That tall of a lift you will need them. Also will probly need a front adjustable track bar. In the near future probly extended length drive shafts because of the e height of the lift. They can run 600+ each so keep the in mind. Front sway bar discos also are nice if you flex a lot. About 150 for the set.

I wouldn't recommend touching the control arms unless you have a problem to start with. A lot of the cheaper control arm kits have pretty bad bushings that will wear out much faster than stock. Unless you need lca's to fix a problem, I would go without bc they might introduce more problems than they fix

Knowing what I know now and what we do with our JK, going that high really scares me. If we did go over what we have now, new drive shafts and both uppers would be needed. GodSpeed with your build.

At that height, you will most likely need at least adjustable front LCA's to correct your caster. This will take care of the flighty feeling that you will have in the steering. Since you have a 2-dr, you will need to keep an eye on BOTH driveshafts. They will be at a pretty steep angle at the cv joint and the boots will eventually rip and start slinging grease. That will be your cue to replace them. When you replace the rear, you will also need to get adjustable rear upper control arms to correct your pinion angle so it plays nice with the double cardjan joint on the new shaft.

Thanks for all the reply's guys, id like to have a 2.5'' lift however, i emailed Rough country to see if running that lift without the spacers will be the same as a 2.5''.

Hope you have the lift installed already. Mine is in a 4 door and yes - the kit is a 2.5 with 3/4" spacers.
On the 2 door I would guess you might need to look at drive shaft length and the control arms.
On the 4 door I ran into no issues except not using the front brake extender brackets. I felt better getting extended lines to replace the originals. Only for the front. The rear extender brackets were fine.
Hope you enjoy and stay safe.
Pics are good...

1. Control arms do not improve ride quality, they correct driveline and steering geometry.

2. With 3" plus of lift on your two door, the steering will be flighty on the highway. To correct this a set of front lower adjustable control arms is needed.

3. On the 2 door specifically you will need a set of rear upper adjustable control arms, this will bring your pinion angle back in line where it needs to be, If you do not correct this it will cause your rear driveshaft to fail quicker than normal. The rear driveshaft on the two door will last until you can afford a new one. It something you should budget for sooner than later.

What year is your JK?
