Exclamation Will aftermarket bumper work if......

Noticing that the metal has to be cut on the front bumper in order to make a stock stubby....

I was curious if later down the road if i wanted an aftermarket bumper if it would still mount up correctly, securly and safely since metal was cut to make the factory stubby?

And say if i sold my JK down the road ( dont think i could ever bring my self to do it though) and wanted to keep the stubby and put the factory back on would it mount carrectly and securly?

If I'm not mistaken since I didn't do this mod the only metal that needs cut is the bumper sub frame(behind the plastic molding). That all has to be removed to instal a new aftermarket bumper so you're all good.

My front bumper hooked to the 4 bolts on each side that hold the tow hooks and metal pieces on. As long as you don't cut that, you should be good.

after the metal and plastic get cut i assume the air dam has to be trimmed or is it just taken off completly?

Depending on how you want the bumper to look, you could trim the air dam or just remove it entirely. I've kept my bumper stock for now and removed just the air dam. I'm still considering the homemade stubby for the bumper.

I personally have experianced more "hood bouncing" when the air damn is removed. Others say it doesn't do anything.

Personally I remove the air damn when going on wheeling trips and put it back on for DD.
