JKU fenders on a JK... exactly WHY don't they fit?
I struggle with the thought that Mopar retooled the tub on the JKU such that it would require they build a dedicated set of rear fenders. Seems they are cost conscious in so many other areas, I would expect they would build the JKU tub such that as many parts as possible would be interchangeable.
Suppliers sell dedicated rear fenders for the JKU, so SOMETHING is different.. but exactly WHAT is different seems to be unpublished. Most folks say unpossible because the rear door contour is different.. what does that mean EXACTLY? Others say it's something in the fender-well liner. But what? If I chop the rears, I would ditch the liner anyway, so.. (??)
I am deciding between a set of BW or Xenon flat flares and cutting the stock flares. While chopping is easy and cheap, it looks like..well.. I just chopped my stock fenders.. I don't love the look.
Can anyone detail EXACTLY what is different between the JKU & JK rear fenders and if the the JKU fenders can be mounted to the JK? And if yes, what short-falls might there be?

Thanks all.. PlanMan..your rig has been one of my favorites for ages.. Well done Sir. I have pretty much every pick, writeup and post of yours ear-marked & saved.
I am considering a set of Xenon flatties from a member here. They don't include the liners.
@ kgw350... you found them to be a direct bolt in? No stretching, bending or molding needed to get them to fit? Zero problems?

I had a 2012 JKUR with factory cut fenders and was trading it in and needed uncut fenders so I traded a buddy with a 2011 2dr. No problems mine went right on his and his went right on mine front and rear. No stretching, bending or molding.

Thanks.. resale and trade-in are two reasons I don't want to chop the stockers.. I want to have them as back-up.
But more important, I don't love the look of chopped..
I read the instructions for the Xenon flatties and it seems easy enough to try to test fit them.

From visual inspection of the Xenon's beside the stock two door rears, it sure looks like they are going to bolt up..
Maybe the factory holes won't line up, but they needed to be drilled out anyway..so not a big deal.
I'll be making an attempt to install and will report back!

Whomever stood firm on the idea that the 4 door rear fenders don't fit the 2 door... likely never tried to mount them...
They mounted up with no problem. All bolt holes lined up, fenders were the right size and shape...

Took about twenty minutes per corner which included removal, trimming the liners, painting exposed body color, and installing.
Only thing left to do is add the indicator lights. And, the one downside of these is... now I need a rear bumper.
