Default attn axle builders:

Debating on weather or not to build a front Rubi d44 or build one from another vehicle, say a Waggy or F150.

What is the tube thickness and dia. of the front Rubi D44? Is the rear the same? I expect these D44's are lighter-duty, housing and tube-wise.

Who has had one completely torn down?

I think the rubi 44 is pretty thin. It seems that I've seen many post on here where people have broken or bent them. Mine has a sleeve pressed into it to giev it added strength.

Sounds like a pretty good mod. What are the specs of the tubing?

i'm fairly certain everything from the ABS to the speedo run off the tone rings in the axle.

I was gonna disable the ESP and I figured the ABS too, but I haven't thought about the speedo. I might contact one of the custom builders and see what they've been doing about this.

If you are going to build a 44, I would reccomend the Mopar Rubi Axle you can't beat the price.
The axle tube diameter is smaller and thinner then the F150 and the waggoneer
but you can gusset it , you would also be able to keep your speed sensors and bolt pattern.
It bolts right in.

If you are planning 0n wheeling 37s or bigger I would reccomend a Dana 60s

I've thought about the Rubi D44, but I'd have to spend alot on mods (cromo shafts, joints, the new hub conversion kit, gussets, etc) so it might not be worth it. I just went to 37's, so it might not be long 'till the D30 goes boom!

D60's may be needed I guess. I need to run some $$$ figures to see what my best option is.

Thanks.

The Rubi 44 front axle is 2.5" dia. x .250" wall thickness. With 37's you will be at the limit with a D44, you can buy yourself some time if you get good axles, locker and drive carefull. The other option is to do a Currie 60, ESP and ABS compatible.

Thanks for the response. I think on the older 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton d44's, the tube size was 2.75"x .25" and 3"x .25". Still not too bad though.

I need to add up the cost of a Rubi D44, chromo's, gears and setup labor (edit:looks to be about $2800 give or take w/ gear setup).

How much more would a JK Currie D60 be w/ an ARB? What othr options are there besides locker type and gearing?

Do you sell to the public, or will I have to go through a distributor? I can't find the JK d60's on your site.

its in the Unit bearing on the front. Reason most after market 60's require the use of the stock outters
