Default Tail gate rattle w/ 35" spare

I'm saving up some money for a teraflex tire carrier but until I get one I am running the stock tire carrier with a spacer. I have noticed that when I hit bumps I hear some rattling from the tire mount. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you solve it? The tire is not touching the factory bumpers so I was thinking of extending these or squeezing in a tennis ball or something to quiet the tire.

I would just run without it unless your on the trail; even then I rarely carry a spare. While on the trail, close the gap between them tire and gate if you can.

At a minimum, extend the bump stops ASAP. If it still rattles after that, take your spare off before doing any serious damage. There are many threads about running the stock carrier, do a search. Some guys have popped welds on their tailgate, others have run with no issues.

I ran mine stock for just a short time. On the stock carrier my 35s would make contact with the stock bumper cover and keep the tire stable, but making closing the tailgate kind of a pain. Now mine didn't rattle, but I knew it was overloaded, so I moved to the ORFAB carrier.

How much does the tire weigh? Mine weighed in on my bathroom scale at 77 lbs each. Thats not including the 17" Wheel

That stock mount will break especially if you wheel. Take it off or throw it in the rear for now

When I was running heavy Nitto 33's for awhile on the stock carrier, it clunked around all over the place from the hinges getting stressed hence worn out. The TF carrier solved that

Your top hinge is worn, the Teraflex carrier will solve your problem. I went through the same issue with my 08.

Default JK Spare too Big

Fighting with Jeep right now. I put on 33s after i bought my 2012 JK. Tailgate rattle got bad and popped one rivet. Jeep says wont warranty tailgate because tire too big. I know the weight in the manual states 50lbs but just the Kevlar tire that Jeep is offering weighs 55lbs. My case is under review they say, but Jeep needs to either change the weight in the manual or remove all there ads on the web. False advertising if you ask me. The Moab addition does anyone know if they are using the same tailgate or is it beefed up. I see they included the bumper mount spare option.
