Default rear diff fluid change

Changed rear diff fluid today and took a little under 2 quarts. I was expecting closer to 2.5. Stock diff cover on 07 rubi. Could it be because my lift has my axle at a little different angle? Thanks

Should take 2 3/8 quarts.

Seems like you would really have to have that pinion pointed way up to only get 2 quarts in.

I noticed my rear coils have a slight bend to them towards the rear. I put my lift on last year and had dealership dial it in. Will it hurt having under 2 quarts in rear diff?

Many lifted jeeps have there rear pinion adjusted up slightly to match the DS angle. I do. But I haven't heard of anyone being able to put in only 2 quarts of gear oil.

Jeep calls for 2 3/8's or 4.75 pints. You are quite a bit less than that. I would look into just how much your pinion is shifted up. Pic?

I changed the rear gear oil in my 2012 JKU Sahara and was only able to put in 2 quarts before it started spilling back out. No big deal, just screw the plug back in (stock cover).

The important thing is to have the oil high enough to get out to the axle bearings.
That means higher than the bottom of the axle tube.

Since you can't fill higher than the fill hole, you need to find out if the bottom of the fill hole is higher than the bottom of the inside of the axle tube.

If the hole is too low, you can get an aftermarket cover with the fill hole much higher. Then make a little dip stick to use when you refill the diff. Make sure the oil level is higher than the bottom of the axle tube.

With my pinion tilted up, on level ground I could only put 1 3/4 qts in the diff. I back up on some 8" tall ramps to get a nice angle to fill the right level.
