Default BFG krawler KX to much?

I am trying to pick a tire for my new 2013 rubicon unlimited.

I really like the Krawler KX and was wondering if the 39 is to much for d44s with artec trusses and RCV shafts? The weight difference between the 37 and 39 is like 8lbs!? For that I get an inch more clearance and 13.5 instead of 12.5 width. Thoughts??

The Krawlers are very soft and will wear very quickly on a DD. It isn't just the weight of the tire that's an issue for the axle, it is the leverage created by the larger size. I personally would rather have a D60 for that size tire, but depending how you use it, it may hold up just fine.

Yeah, thats a lot of tire for a 44. Not just the weight, but those are super gnarly and grippy tires. That being said, if you drive conservatively off road you can probably go a long time without damage.

Not your daily driver I take it?

I have a good friend that runs that exact setup on his 2DR. He wheels very lightly on the jeep and doesn't allow wheel spin. If he can't crawl it he tries a new line. We run Hammer trails together, so the type of wheeling we do is not light. He can't turn for crap when stopped so you may want to look into some steering assist. Great tire if you can fork over the cash.

Hope this help! Ask Higher Ground Fab (a JK-F sponsor) if you want to know more about the setup, they built and maintain that jeep.
