HELP - 1.25 inch rough country body lift - CANT GET PRESSED STUDS OUT
i have a 1.25 inch rough country body lift kit that i want to install on my ride
(insert your “you don’t want a body lift" snide comment here_______)
and half way through the install i got the part where you have to remove the pressed studs out of the body mounts and replace them with their longer bolts. i followed their instructions to the letter and couldn’t get one stud to budge. not one.
i spent over an hour beating on those damn things.
when i started bending the body mount i stopped and reinstalled all the body mounts and bolts (after throwing my hammer across my shop).
i have ZERO rust or corrosion bc i live in the desert (so no salt on the roads and no moisture in the air)
i contacted rough country, they said i was following their instructions exactly and the studs were stuck (no shit)
and then suggested pb blaster
tried that, nope. (thats makes the second install attempt)
any ideas?
my initial thought was to sell this kit to someone and get a more or daystar so i don’t have to mess w the pressed studs, but since i already have it and i threw away the lift packaging (of course) i can’t return it i thought id ask here thn give it one more try (this will make #3... mf’er)
please help!!!
thanks guys!

No judgement here, honestly... But what you paid for the body kit, you could buy a leveling kit or some sort of budget boost... I would honestly eat the cost of the body lift ( or sell on Craigslist) and buy a budget boost that fit your budget.. This is all coming from a guy with a new 4" Skyjacker lift in the box waiting on tires and rims..
I helped a buddy put on a 4" Tough Country last night.. He chose to leave his 2" body lift on and it was a total mess trying to get his hear shifter from hitting the console.. The body lift is coming off tomorrow..
I am just trying to say that you should think about what you want for an end product and save until you are ready.. I DO NOT oppose body lifts at all if that is as high as you will ever go. But if you think you may go higher later (which most of us do),,, you should just wait, save and get to your final destination in one shot..
I hope this helps and Good Luck!

I'd be more pissed about living in Midland........that was 2 years of my life I'll never get back.
Back to your issue; 2 ways - drill the studs out, stepping up drill sizes to remove most of the "meat" so pounding them out will be much easier. The quickest way would be to use a press and just press them out of the mount. Contact a local shop with a press (assuming you don't have one) and bring them down and be done.
Sorry man, been there, done that with the frustration aspect.

thanks for the drilling idea. man what a PITA.
if i take them to someone w a press, i guess id have to leave the body suspended off the frame, do one side, then repeat for the other side.
im beginning to think this 1.25 inches is just not worth the headache...

thanks fred!
Bigger hammer?
Even with a few years of grime, all of mine popped out with a good smack or three. No blaster or anything. Don't know what else you could do to get em out. Have another beer, cool down a bit, and maybe they'll be loosened from the last round?

Just drill them bro. I bet it won't take long if you use a few good/sharp drills and they'll hammer right out. New day , new attitude!
I have a 2007 4 door automatic & did mine. They were in there pretty good. I put the nut on the bolt as directed, then using a cinder block, I put the head of the bolt inside a flat 1" wrench (1" wrench was a little thicker than a 3/4") then using a steel mallet I held the body mount on the side if the block & was able to break them free. I did slightly bend 1 mount, but after breaking it free I was able to straighten it back out.
Since them I have helped 3 other people install this kit. I did get a few banged knuckles, but it can be done.

I’m going to give it another shot i think.
I’m going to use a bigger hammer, drill them out, use a cinder block, and drink more beer.
glad to hear that its actually possible
ill post a photo when its all finished up...
