Default Fixing my broken 4x4 shifter

Anyone know if I need to remove my entire center console to repair the 4x4 shifter cable... So far it looks like it. Any tricks ?

Think I pulled the hole thing to fix mine . Only problem I had was the shifter knobs hard to get apart without breaking the plastic clips . Then it takes a good smack to get it off . I used a Big adjustable wrench under the knob and hit it with a hammer .

Just replaced mine yesterday. Had to remove the 4 bolts securing the console and pull it up a little, but did not remove it completely.
