Default Do have and ORE hand throttle installed on your JK?

Has anyone used the Off Road Engineering hand throttle for the JK?

So far it is the only one I have found that will fit the JK. I sure would like to have one for the trail. I am wondering how difficult it is to intall.

Thanks,
John

No one has one installed on their Jeep. I am not sure I want to be the first.

I have the ORE electronic throttle control if that's what you are talking about. No really useful as a hand throttle. Good for constant loads like winching or an air compressor. Might sell mine since I never really use it.

It is what I am talking about. I want it to crawl over rocks in Moab. I would only use it in four low when i need a foot on the brake and a foot on the clucth at the same time. have u used at such?

You dont need to use the clutch at all when crawling. One foot on the gas one foot on the brake and you are set. You can also monkey with your idle speed a little with a Pro-Cal or similar if you are a bit uncomfortable at first but either way in 4lo you shouldnt stall or need your clutch at all. If you are using rpm and feathering your clutch while offroad crawling I would watch a few videos on Youtube on some suggested methods or ask some of your other local Jeep buddies. Your clutch wont last long if you start playing with it crawling on rocks.

I had bought the ORE thinking I would use it on situations like the tight switchback on Black Bear pass, where I would have to go from brake to gas very quickly without rolling forwards. The problem is that the controller only really works under constant load. For instance, with my foot on the brake, I will crank up the idle RPMs to lets say 3500 RPM. However, when I start to engage the clutch, the RPMS just drop to as if I never really increased the RPM.

So, like I said it really only works for constant load applications like winching or increasing RPMs for an air compressor.

Thats sucks. I came within inches of rolling off a five hundred foot cliff backwards in Moab this year. I was bringing my tire up over a big rock on a ledge that was barely wide enough for the Jeep. I was off camber to the right and the drop. My Jeep sounded like it was about to stall and ended up pushing in the clutch a bit. That was it, I rolled backward and thought I was a goner. I then had to get my foot from the brake to the gas without going any further backward. I ended up popping the clutch and punching the gass. My tire hit the rock, my front end bounced up into the air that everyone around gasped at once. I made it without killing myself. But I cannot help to think that if I had a hand throttle, I could have brought my RPMs up a bit and began to creep forward until I could get my foot off the brake. I think then I would have been much more controlled on this ledge.

Now I am not sure what to do. I am better at using the clutch and brake together when if four low. I found that when in four low I can mash the brake completely without mashing the clutch and my Jeep will continue to move forward without killing the engine. I guess I will have to work with that for a while.

Thanks again.

I think I know where you are talking about. I turned my seat covers to diamond dust on that ledge. Even though some say an auto is not a "real Jeep" this scenario is really why I like an automatic. My Cherokee was an auto and I got spoiled.
