Default Custom built Rock Sliders

If you missed the bumper build then you might want to know that my students and teacher are building this at the high school where I work. This rail is 1/4" so I think it will hold up fine to whatever abuse it sees. I wanted a little less thickness but was all they had at the steel building we went to that day. I will put a step on it with the JK logo in a weld bead to make some surface texture. At least that's the plan right now.

Picture of the bumper from the last project. I know the skid plate doesn't do much for a non Rubi but it sure does look good from the bottom. It also provides security when you put a winch in that hole on top. You just try to get the skid plate off out on the street.

Yes, they are building some projects on my Jeep. I buy all the materials and paint and they do the labor for free. I talked with the teacher and the students really do love to make something that is useful. It is a win win situation. I am the principal of this school but they work on anyone's stuff if it meets the needs of the class criteria. This type of heavy steel that rolls around at school make them all smile. This project has also given them some practice before they go to competition in February.

This is not the Auto Shop. (I know what you mean though) You probably could find a school that would work on your Jeep. You would need to have some confidence in their training. I have 4 separate shops and this is the welding shop. The instructor has many years of work experience at welding. I have a half dozen certified welders that are students. My vocational training is a great place for students that want to make a living with their hands. I should take a picture of my latest Miller Aluminium welder.

Wow thats great! I wish my school had some type of vocational training besides photography, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but not what I wanted to do when I grew up. If I could have gotten into auto or aircraft mechanics school that would have been sweet!

We made the bracket a little stronger with an L brace along one side after we mounted it on the Jeep the first time.

Side shot. Looks like it came with this as original equipment from my vantage point. Boy I sure am proud of those students and the teacher for all the hard work. Another STOUT design.
