Default Best lift for my Rubi

I recently purchased a 2010 Rubi Unlimited and have been mulling the idea of a lift to get more flex and 35 at the four corners. This is my third Jeep, but my first Wrangler, so I new to this type of suspension. In looking through catalogs and web sites I've discovered that there are more options than you can shake a stick at: Long arm, Short arm, budget lifts, etc.

My goal is something that I can drive on trails rated at 5 to 6 - I'd probably never do anything more extreme than that - but I don't want to go too cheap at the same time. Also, my wife is handicapped, so I need to keep it where I can get here into it. 3.5" to 4" would be the max I'd want to do.

I'm guessing the budget approach is probably not the best answer. Between the short arm lift and the long arm lift what are the pros and cons? Also, I saw adds for three link and four link designs; again which is better? Finally, is there a brand that would be my best choice; one I should clearly stay away from?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Been researching for a year, and ridden in many Jeeps. I think 2.5, 3.0, and the MAX should be 3.5. Even a 2.5 will easily fit 35s. I say look at the following, in no specific order:

AEV
Rock Krawler
Metalcloak

I chose Rock Krawler but would happily pick one of the others. I put my 35s on today (stock but new wheels) and am getting my lift on Monday.

Thanks for the info. I'd be interested in your opinions as to why the max should be 3.5. I tend to agree from a practicality point of view, but what are your thoughts?

Why lift more than that and get into even more complications? You only need 2.5 for 35s anyway. In fact, my RK will lift more than 2.5 and to play it safe, I am getting new driveshafts (easily another $1,000 for a 1310/1350 driveshafts). Plus your center of gravity goes higher.

I have to agree with flyer. If you don't plan on going any taller then 35s why go bigger then a 2.5in lift. If 35s are your end goal, I would run a teraflex 2.5 coil and shock lift. This kit doesn't require new driveshafts, control arms etc. If you go to 35s, depending on what yr model you have you may wanna regear also to 4.88 gears. I'd sleeve and gusset the front end, regear to 4.88 if a regear is needed, run 35s on a 2.5 teraflex lift.

teraflex is my choice for lifts for sure, great customer service after the sale.

Sell the JK now. It will cost you way more money in the long run than you think when you start going down the modifications road. Keep the CJ and get a bigger truck.

Nice to see you on the forums Bill.
