Default GY MT/R with Kevlar 285/70/17's on stock 2012 wheels...will it work?

I just put some Nitto Trail Grapplers on my Jeep from the GY's listed in the subject. A buddy of mine has a 2012 JK Sport and has no idea what his back spacing is on his stock wheels, nor do I. Will these GY's fit on his stock wheels? I have some Pro Comp Extremes with 5" back spacing and had a little rub on the air deflector under the front bumper, but it was minor. I sold the tires to him, but we are worried that he might rub more than I did. Will it work?

The tires will fit on the stock wheels (285/70/17 being a rough 33" tire) but the backspacing will not be enough to keep the tires from rubbing at full lock and full flex. Compensate with a set of Spidertrax and you're good to go.

He won't be flexing or at full lock. He is planning on lifting it, but he won't be offroading to hard. More of a hunting Jeep and towed behind his coach. I don't know if he will go with Spidertrax or not. Thanks for the info bud!

X2 on the spacers. Spidertrax are good ones.

I am in the same boat. I want to lift my whitey, but don't want to void warranty. I have a 2013 jku sport and want to put bigger tires on first til I lift it. I have the 16" steel rims, and want to know the biggest tire I can put on it without spacers. Also don't want to have to buy another set of tires once I do lift it. Help help

The tires worked out fine. No rubbing at all.
