Default 5.13's with 33"s

Anyone here running a JKU-Automatic (D44/D30) with 5.13 gears and 33” tires? I’m really tempted to do (instead of 4.88’s). According to the chart, 5.13’s will lower my highway RPM’s from the way I’m driving now with the OD off with 3.73’s. If you have this setup, do you like it?...or your opinions

Sounds to me like a LOT of gear for 33's if you're not planning on going bigger.. just my opinion. Keep in mind, those charts are based on actual tire diameter. Chances are, your 33's don't measure 33". Have to take that into account and how much highway driving you do.

255/80/17 (32.5 actual) and 4.88s are perfect. Some "experts" say THAT is slightly over-geared.

Yup. All depends what kind of driving you have to do on a daily basis.

Sounds like overkill for 33s. If you plan to go bigger (like in the next 6 months), get 5.13s, but if not you'll prob feel like the Jeep is "over-driving" if yaknowwhatimsayin

I'm running 5.13s on my 2010 JKU Auto with 295/70/17 Trail Grapplers. Love he set up. Figured I would only want to regear once. Have no regrets. I'm sitting somewhere around 2600rpm at 70mph. Kind of hard to see, but here's a pic of the tach at 70mph

Ran 5.13's with 33's (d30 front), and now running 5.38's with 35's (d44 front). It's a personal choice, but I think it is hard to over-gear these 3.8 auto's..

The only 'problem' I have is high rpm's pulling heavy loads OD Off. With this gearing, I would probably be fine running OD On, but I'd rather err on the side of saving the transmission.

Default 5.13 w/ 33's

At 70 MPH (where I occasionally drive) I’m doing about 2,900 RPM now with my overdrive turned off. My current “33’s” measure about 31.5” and I plan to go to a tire that would be at least a full 33 inches or so, perhaps Maxxis Bighorn 305/70-17, which should yield about where I looking to land. It’s a DD and I just have no interest in going the 35” route. Anyway, 2,600 seems livable plus better low-speed and crawling throttle response.

I don't mean to jack the thread but can someone tell me how hard it is to do gears yourself
