The guys in my club running that big are running D60s. Ones a rock jock and ones a wrecking yard conversion. If it were me Id probably save up for a rock jock 60 or a PR60 but I never plan on going that big.

I always here that 37's are pretty much the max on the Dana 44. It's not just the axles you need to be concerned with but also the ring and pinion. The stock Rubi locker works good but 40's is known to break it. There is a lot of variances and i'm sure you will get plenty of different answers to this question. 1st question is how hard do you wheel, rocks, mud etc.. Or do you primarily use it on the road with light 4-wheeling. I would imagine if you do moderate to difficult 4-wheeling, invest your money in an axle swap. You will be glad you did.

In that case you might be ok with Chromolys or better yet RCVs. Truss it and be very gentle with it off road. Im assuming your gonna gusset the C's too.

I'm running a rubi d44 on rcv shafts in front externally sleeved with c gussets trussed in the rear with the 35spline nitro shafts. Was breaking 30 spline shafts in the rear. It's been wheeled pretty hard on 39 in tires. Just remember like they said your weak point will be the r and p now. So if it breaks, it will break big time.
