Why are my tires chopped???
I have a set of 35" MTZs on my JKU on a 2.5" TF coil lift with 5100 Bilsteins and have noticed that the front two tires are "chopped". The tread heights are different in different tread blocks throughout the tire. I was getting crazy vibration at higher speeds. I re-balanced the wheels and the vibration got better but not perfect. What's my next step??
I was thinking of checking the alignment. Or could it be a suspension issue (bad ball joints, bent Cs, etc). How would I check??? I was very religious about rotating the tires. I never gusseted my front axle. Could that be the issue?? Not sure where to go from here. BTW, rear tires are wearing perfectly. Any help guys???

We need some more information here. How old is the lift, tires, Jeep? What's mileage like on everything? How often do you rotate? How much weight to balance the tires? The specs of the lift, whole kit or basic budget?
At first I'd say bad shocks bc of the cupped/scalloped tires. If you have high miles on original ball joints that could be a cause too. The original BJ's aren't intended for heavy 35's, I had a bad one at 10k with stock components. Maybe a bad steering stabilizer? Disconnect one side and push/pull to see if there's still tension. Last I'd suggest torquing all of your front end suspension bolts, especially that pesky lower track bar bolt. It's easy to simply replace that one with a 9/16" fine thread grade 8 bolt.

100% not rotating enough. My JKU did it too with the original tires. Rotated them more often and all was good. If it is bad enough, very hard to correct.
I mostly fixed mine by moving rears to the front. Moving fronts to the rear. I crossed the tires as well, moving driver front to passenger rear, etc.
Sent from some string and a few tin cans.

Thanks for great replies. I thought I did a pretty good job rotating the tires. I did them with every oil change, about every 5K miles.
My lift is the 2.5 coil lift from Teraflex. I put in Bilstein 5100 shocks at the time of the lift about two years ago. My JKU IS a 2010 and the tires have about 30K on them with about 10/32nd tread left. I also installed the JKS front adj trackbar at the time of the lift.
Maybe what I'll do is rotate tires again. Put front in rears and vice versa. Ask them to check the alignment and go from there. Don't know what the alignment numbers. I'll tell them to check out the ball joints.
BTW...dumb question coming...what's the easiest way to check if the shocks are bad??
Thanks for all the great advice.
