Just need a quick piece of mind on this. I have a 2013 JKUR and am adding a lift and upgrading to 35x12.5x17. I do not mind the stock wheels and most importantly my wife really likes them, so I would like to mount the 35's on the stockers. I know that Discount and some others will not mount them on the stock wheels which concerns me a little. I did find a shop that will do it, but would like to know of any disadvantages from a handling or performance perspective or dangers in doing this. I know many are running this, but would just like some final confirmation before doing it. Thanks.

 

Its a little harder to get a flat contact patch and by little i mean little. You will be running around 25-27 psi depending on the tire.
Stock wheels with 12.5 wide tires is perfectly fine

 

^ Some tire places will tell you otherwise probably because they have to go with what manufacturers recommend. But nothing wrong with it PLENTY of people on here do. Not much different than the thousands running 12.5-13.5 wide tires on 8" aftermarket wheels.

 

X2 on getting the air pressure right. The main reason shops don't want to mount them is simply because the manufacturers don't recommend it..

 

Lots of people running 35" tires (12.5" wide) on stock rims without any issues. Of course, you'll need to add wheel spacers to give the proper backspacing.

 

Thanks for the responses and confirmation. I will be installing the Gamechanger Lite in a couple weeks and probably some flatties. Already have spacers and will stick with stockers.

 

You could also buy a metric size tire that is just slightly narrower. go to the website of the tire builder of your choice and just look at the spec sheet for the different sizes. You could easily use something like a 11.5 inch tire that will give you a slightly better contact patch.

 

a benefit...you'll hold a bead down to probably 10psi offroad.

I know it's not recommended but I run 12.5s on my Chevy with stock wheels.. The wheels are only 6 inches wide. 4th set of them and no problem
