Default Stalling Issue in 4H with my new Manual Shift

Sorry for newbie question, but really green to offroading. I bought a new 13 manual, and added a lift. In my auto, i never had issues on hills, now this new one can't go up hills in 4h. 4L works fine. Is that common?

Also, I was on the clutch pretty hard trying to get up a hill in 4H and smelt some burning. Do you think one or two failed tries is going to hurt my clutch any?

What gear were you in? If you're climbing hills you should be in 4 Low to get the lower gearing to climb. 4 High is more for snow, gravel, or level fire roads at greater speeds. The clutch is pretty tough so I doubt you did any damage.

Thank you.

I was in 4 High in first gear, and a fairly small incline (one I did in my auto trans in 4 high all the time). I guess the 4" lift and 35 tires, steel bumpers, winch, spare tire rack add so much weight it has to be in 4 Low. I am just surprised I cant go up a fairly small hill in 4 High with my new engine in the 13'. The auto was an 11' and had no lift or other mods.

Also, the sales guy also told me my 3.73 gear was adequate. They do most theirs lifts in the Reno dealer on 3.73. Maybe he was lying, and I should have had them change to that.

Offroad you should be in 4lo or 2hi. Leave 4hi for snow covered roads. 4lo is fine up to 20 mph
